WHERE IS SIBERIA?
The territory of Siberia stretches eastwards from the Ural Mountains all the way to the Pacific/Arctic Ocean. In terms of latitude, Siberia also takes up all the land from the Arctic Ocean to Russia's national borders. This gives Siberia an approximate area of 13.1 million square kilometers, or about 77% of Russia's total landmass.
Where is the Taiga?
The taiga (pictured in dark green) takes up the majority of Siberia's landscape. It's not exactly a tropical rainforest, but most of Siberia is not the desolate, barren, and frigid tundra (pictured in light green) that we often imagine in our minds.
The WWF (World Wildlife Fund) splits the Siberian Taiga into 2 distinct regions: the West Siberian Taiga (also known as the West Siberian Plain) and the East Siberian Taiga.
